SMOKELESS BHOGI

On Friday 13th January 2012 the volunteers of NGC and NSS of MVM Higher Secondary School campaigning in and around Poonamallee high road awareness of celebrating Bhogi in an eco friendly manner. Students prepared charts and posters to convey the message of controlling pollution that is caused during Bhogi celebration. Banners were also prepared with the help of the school management to spread social awareness among the people. Pamphlets were distributed to the public during the rally. Thus their own way the students played their small part to save Mother Earth.


CENTRE FOR ENVIRONMENT EDUCATION - 2011

CEE OF TamilNadu organized a rally for Scouts & Guides on 4th August, 2011 at Marina Beach for awareness of Coastal Environment. 20 Scouts & 17 Guides, 3 Scouters & Guiders of our School participated in the event. The rally was from Marina Beach to Vivekananda House.


INAUGURATION OF ROVERS & RANGERS UNIT - 2011

The Maharishi Vidya Mandir School expanded its wing with Inauguration of Rovers & Ranger Unit for std XI at Maharishi Vidya Mandhir School on 3rd August 2011.There are 100 Rovers & Rangers 10 Scouters and Guiders in the unit. Shri Gopal Krishnan,Shri Valinakayam, Shri Balaji are the Rover Scout leaders Smt.Sujatha and Smt.Mahalakshmi are Ranger Leaders for the unit. Ranger Roshan Joy welcomed the gathering. Dr.P.Perumal Swamy State Chief Commissioner of Tamil Nadu Bharat Scouts & Guides was the Chief Guest.He blessed the Rovers & Rangers. Shri C.Ramalingam DC(S) Maharishi District awarded rank Badge to the Rover Scout Leaders. Shri D.Poornachandran ALT ( C ) District Secretary of Maharishi district awarded HWB woggle to the Scout Masters. Smt. Preethi Narayanan DC( G) of Maharishi District told about the benefits of Rovers & Rangers. Ranger Priyanka gave vote of thanks. Rover Rishab and Ranger Harshni Swetha were masters of Ceremony. We thank our Senior Principal Shri S.Namasivayam for giving permission to conduct the event.

The “MYLAPORE ACADEMY AWARD” was bagged by the Institution for the “BEST GUIDE COMPANY”.

Our school Scouts and guide group Inaguration function was organized at our school premises. On 10th July 2010. Mr. N. Muthukrishnan L.T. Former State Secretary was the Chief guest. Nearly 3323 children enrolled within movement as Bunnys,Cubs, Bulbuls, Scouts and guides.

16 Scouts & 16 guides attended the Independence Day Celebration at State headquarters Wenlock park, Chennai – 5. The colour party of our school invite the Chief guest on that occasion.

The Bharat Scouts and guides National Headquarters conducted the National Integration Camp at Saiyed Modi Railway Stadium, Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. 16 Scouts & guides from our school attended the Camp from 22nd to 26th September 2010. They were honoured as the BEST PARTICIPATED STATE among the 24 other states of India. Mr. D. Poorna Chandran and Mrs. Nalina Kumari accompanied the children.

Our 12 Cubs and 12 Bulbuls attended the Regional Level Cub Bulbul Utsav at Shankaranpally, Salem from 6th to 11th September 2010. Mrs. Neela, Mrs. Kamalaveni- Cub Masters and Mrs. Sujatha Vinodh, Mrs. Saraswathy- Flock Leaders accompanied the children for the camp.

The Annual Camping for Std. VII and VIII was conducted at Kethi Conoor in Southern Railway Camp site. 196 children along with 20 Scout Masters and Guide Captains attended the camp. Mr. Ramadoss from St. John Ambulance gave the first aid training for the children. The camp was between 26th – 28th September 2010. Mrs. A. Jayanthy Scout incharge organized the camp.

On 11th November 2010, 48 Scouts and Guides of Std. IX and X attended a series of speaker which was conducted by Rajiv Ghandhi Institute at Sriperumbudhur. Our Scouts & guides along with 645 other service units like NCC, NSS and other volunteer services had a Raport session with our Former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdhul Khalam. They declared his Birthday as a “STUDENTS DAY”.


NATIONAL GREEN CORPS

Our school participated in Paper Man – Paper Retrieve Drive on 21st July 2010 conducted by EXNORA. Our school got the certificate from EXNORA for the effort of saving 2 trees.
P. GOKUL RAJ of Std. VII A received 3rd Prize from Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, Chairman of C.P.R. Environmental Education Centre in Painting Competition on 31st July 2010.
Ms. Supria from TERI conducted awareness programme on Climate educchange for Std. IX students on 15th October 2010.
NGC Club Activity conducted on 30th October 2010 for classes VII and IX. Ms. Sridevi of CPR environmental centre gave a powerpoint presentation on Compassionate Kids to create awareness among children about the importance of treating animals respectfully and humanely.


NATIONAL CADET CORPS

Thirty seven students passed the ‘A’ Certificate Examination. Twenty students secured A Grade.


HEALTH CLUB

We have started giving a health tip a day in the assembly and a health corner in the library. M.V. Diabetics Centre conducted Obesity Review Camp for students of Std. V to VIII. Importance of Personal Hygiene was brought out through multimedia for students of Std. I to V.
We have initiated a programme on “Dengue Awareness Campaign” to prevent dengue in our community as per the advice of CBSE wherein we will conduct programmes once in a fortnight.


Department of Bio-Technology Natural Resource Awareness Club(DNA CLUB)

The primary objective of the DNA CLUB is to create awareness on Bio-diversity, Bio-resources and Bio-technology for the students of Std.VI – XII. The Club would be divided into 2 groups. Std. VI – VIII and Std. IX – XII.


EUREKA SATURDAY

Eureka Saturday classes was launched on 2nd February 2004 with an aim to impart value based education. It was launched by Sri B.HemanthRao Senior Numismatist.

These classes were provided for the students of Std. I to VIII on all the Saturdays between 1.00 p.m to 3.00 p.m to explore themselves into

Co-scholastic areas. Hence it was christened with the name ”Eureka Saturday” with the able guidance of Sri Lakshmi Narayanan and Mrs.Madhumathi Managing Trustees of 64 Kalashristi, an Organisation for co-curricular activities. We have invited 1 faculty member to impart knowledge on the following activities.

3.Origami(paper art)

4.Craft

5.Art

6.Doll making

7.Embroidery

8.Philately

9.Minicraft

10.In search of excellence

11.Handwriting

12. Spoken English

13.Vedic Maths

          All the above courses were offered free without changing any course fee. At the end of the year an “Eureka Saturday Display Day” was observed so that the other students were able to know about these classes.

          The parents who accompany the students to these classes were found wasting their time waiting in corridors. Our Senior Principal has extended classes for the benefit of the parents. They are

5.Screen Printing

6.Spoken English


Each faculty members who is well experienced and qualified in their respective field are paid with a remuneration of Rs.500/- for 2 hours.


Not less than 250 students and 100 parents are benefited by these classes. So far 150 sessions have been conducted for the past 7 years.
